mid project with this - classic with a twist
holly c on Oct 23, 2018
I love the texture. It will give the backsplash more interest than a flat tile. Especially with a slightly darker grout to highlight the texture. I hope it looks as great installed as the picture I have in my mind.
Ann M on Oct 6, 2018
perfect "handmade" look. love the uneven edges and the way the texture catches the light.

Unique look. Undulation provides interest. Not your typical 3x6 white subway tile.

I ordered a sample, and I love the way it looks. It isn't completely flat and smooth. It has interest without being distracting. Fingers crossed I love it as much when it's installed!

This tile has a wavy old handmade appearance. The waves reflect light and add dimension to the backsplash/wall.

does this come in bullnose?
A shopper on Mar 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We carry a coordinating pencil liner to finish this tile http://tilebar.com/bristol-bianco-polished-ceramic-pencil-liners.html.
Are the tile exterior profile patterned, i.e. if you were to pass through a certain quantity would you find multiple tile with identical exterior profile?
nick h on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Not in my experience. Each one was very unique.
Does this tile have built in spacers?
A shopper on Apr 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. The tile guy had his own little tiny spacers as I believe most tile people would use?
I really don't understand about free space tile unless you're speaking of a panel of tiles I really don't know? Mine were all individual .
What size grout line would you recommend? It is for a kitchen backsplash and will have white grout. Thanks!
Heather K on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We set the tiles as close together as possible using no spacers. Could not be happier with it. We used a warm grey grout that is super light and it looks incredible. The uneven edges of the tile really lend it to being a natural spacer.
Does anyone know what color grout is used on the sample photo on the website (the bathroom vanity one)? It's grey, but I can't tell what color grey? I just want to make sure I don't go too light of a grey. Thanks for your help.
A shopper on Oct 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Err on the side of darker. It will show off the tile better. That’s what I did. Came out great! Seal it, and you’re good to go.
Wanting to use this Blanco Tile for our shower/bath.. curious what flook tile some of you used to pair with it?
(those of you that used in your bathroom). Thanks!
Katy S on Sep 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Lancaster Bianco tile is so beautiful with a handmade feel to it that it really can go with anything on the floor! We chose a beautiful wood look gray porcelain tile called Centurywood in Dune, and its absolutely stunning. I also plan to update my bathroom using the lancaster bianco subway tile and will pair it with a morrocan pattern cement tile that is gray and white. (NOTE: we chose to keep the grout pure white so that it really is a beautiful neutral).
are there trim pieces?
Jade G on Jul 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes! We do have a corresponding bullnose, pencil liner, and chair rail for this tile!

Why is non-sanded grout recommended for this product? My contractor is insisting to use sanded grout for a 1/8" joint.
natalie m on Feb 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We recommend using non-sanded if going for 1/16" joints. That said, one's contractor/installer should always have the final say.
Hi - I have White Springs granite and am considering this tile in Blanco. My granite has a lot of gray, black and brown plus cream. My cabinets are off white/cream. Modern Farmhouse/Country French theme. Would you recommend this tile?
Van on Mar 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It definitely would work well but I would recommend ordering a sample one of the Vanilla , and Dove, in addition to the Blanco sample so that you can hold it up to your kitchen cabinets, floor, etc. and get a better feel for it.

Would you recommend the Lancaster subway tiles for a blacksplash in vanilla or Bianco with white/grey cararra marble counter tops? Difficult to see how yellow the vanilla is.
Beth H on Mar 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would definitely recommend the Lancaster subway tile as a backsplash for white/grey carrara marble counter tops. The bianco tile is plain white and the vanilla has an ivory hue. I would also advise ordering a sample of each so you can see the actual tile before you make your decision.
Installation

SUBSTRATE

Tile must be installed over a suitable substrate to insure a proper installation. Tile should be installed over a clean, sound, and flat surface, free of contaminates including curing compounds. Substrate should be free of cracks. If used in a wet area you must waterproof. See manufacturer's recommendation on a membrane for crack and water protection that is compatible with the setting material you are using. Expansion joints should be installed at all changes in plane in the tile work and where tile abuts restraining surfaces, therefore silicone caulking sealant must be installed in all corner joints in place of grout.

INSTALLATION

  • We always recommend dry-fitting your pattern first to think about your cuts in advance and to make sure you like the pattern. This will also help you choose which pieces go where, which is especially helpful with tiles that have a lot of variation.
  • To avoid affecting the color of the tile, white thinset such as Bostik PM is highly is recommended for all installations. For faster installation, use a rapid curing thinset such as Bostik Single-Flex Fast Set.
  • Apply as much adhesive as can be covered within 10-15 minutes.
  • Grout joint should be a minimum of 1/16” and not butt set.
  • The optimal trowel size is a 9" Trowel - 1/8" square notch.

GROUTING

  • This tile is made by hand and is high fired. This causes a considerable amount of variation in size and thickness.  With handmade tile we always recommend larger grout joints to account for these irregularities.
  • Grout joints should be packed full and free of voids and pits.
  • Clean excess grout as the work progresses before it has hardened completely.
  • Acids should never be used for cleaning grout haze.
  • Use a damp sponge for the final cleaning and to smooth out the grout joints.
  • Both Sanded and Non-Sanded grouts are acceptable for use. We recommend Sanded grout for joints larger than 1/8 inch and Non-Sanded for 1/8th inches or less.
  • It is recommended to use grout release, then grout the tile, then use a sealant to the tile such as MP90
  • Highly recommended to purchase the Polished Porcelain Maintenance Kit.

CUTTING

The recommended cutting method is to use a wet saw with a diamond blade. Edges can be sanded smooth after cutting.
