Q: Is this tile considered porous? I'm looking at the instrustions for my grout and it states to wet down the edges if the tile is porous.
A: I’m not an employee of Tilebar. I’m a design-builder who frequently use many tiles from Tilebar including this one. This particular tile has a less than 10% water absorption spec and it is also porcelain which is a very water resistant material. The only truly 100% water resistant tile is glass. You can take this extra step per the grout instruction guidance if you like. It won’t hurt. Or call your grout manufacturer and let them know that you’re using porcelain with a less than 10% water absorption rating and see what the advise. Best of luck! -
Q: can this tile be installed vertical?
A: Yes!A: The tile has some dimension to the face. I love it's unique look. If it comes in a longer size for a vertical application that would be very beautifulA: I don’t see why not. This tile looks beautiful in my shower.A: Yes. It works anyway you desire. -
Q: Best way to edge in a kitchen?
A: We don't have a corresponding trim piece for this collection at this time. You can try adding a contrasting color from another collection. Browse all of our trim pieces here which include metal edging strips: https://tilebar.com/collection/trim-pieces.html
Alternatively, you can line the tile with a clean caulk line that matches the color of the grout.A: I used the London white matte jolly’s from tile bar also. They worked nicely.A: Schluter trim.A: We used this tile in the kitchen and bathroom, and we didn't add an edge in the kitchen, but in the bathroom used Schluter trim. It looks great. We love the tile too with some dark grout giving the walls a great pattern.A: I just wanted a simple white edge and ended up using PVC L-shaped Tile Edging Trim from Home Depot. Very happy with the end result. -
Q: Is there any color variation in the tiles? Are they different shades of whites or are they all the same color white? I am looking for tile that is all the same color. I bought a sample and like it...just want to be sure before ordering a lot.
A: Mine were all the same colorA: No color variation.A: They are all the same shade.A: We have it in the kitchen and bathroom, and there is no color variation at all. -
Q: Are spacers needed to install this tile?
A: I didn’t use spacers for my backsplash installation and it turned out great! I actually started out the project using spacers, but found I preferred the look with the minimal natural spacing between each tile.A: I'm preparing to install mine now, and not use spacers. I want a stacked look vs. grouted look.A: In my opinion, yes. I personally don’t see how they can be installed any other way.
Grout lines enhance the distinctive nature of these amazing tiles.
Textured, matte and beautiful!A: No. The wavy edge keeps the right amount of space and it installs very easily. -
Q: Need bullnose edge for this tile. Do you have this. What can I do?
A: We don't have a corresponding trim piece for this collection at this time. I would suggest our Essential Metal Edge Strip; https://www.tilebar.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=essential
Alternatively, you can line the tile with a clean caulk line that matches the color of the grout.A: I used Schluter metal profiles.A: We used a metal edging that was made for shower corners and outside edges. -
Q: It looks like this tile does not have smooth edge, but rather uneven. Is that correct?
A: Yes.A: As this is a handmade tile, it does have uneven edges. -
Q: So you have 1/4 pencil or bullnose pieces for this tile?
A: We don't happen to make a trim piece for this collection at this time. You can try adding a similar or contrasting color from another collection. Browse all of our trim pieces here: https://tilebar.com/collection/trim-pieces.html
Alternatively, there are a couple other techniques for edging the tile. Two common options are edging the tile with a metal edging strip (like a Schluter) or by lining the tile with a clean caulk line that matches the color of the grout. -
Q: What do you use to cap this tile on an open edge?
A: We don't have a corresponding trim piece for this collection at this time. You can try adding a contrasting color from another collection. Browse all of our trim pieces here which include metal edging strips: https://tilebar.com/collection/trim-pieces.html
Alternatively, you can line the tile with a clean caulk line that matches the color of the grout.A: I purchased tile metal edging. There are various edges and colors., and it gives a clean look to your project.A: I decided to paint the edges the wall color (which is really similar to the tile color) so it blends in. Did this in a previous application (bathroom) and it looked good. I don't really want to draw attention to the edge...kinda just want it to go away, so that is what I did! Hope that helps!A: I believe we’re just going to use a thin Schluter edge trim in satin nickel. It will match my cabinet hardware and appliances. Not much will show in my kitchen. I suppose a thin ceramic bullnose would work, depends on the look you want. -
Q: How is this Bayou tile different than the Lancaster?
A: The Bayou tile comes in a matte finish where the Lancaster comes in a polished finish. They are very similar in design style, but the shades of color may differ between the Bayou and the Lancaster.

Happy!
It looks a bit more tan in person than on the website but I'm still happy with the rustic look it creates.

Loved the texture of these tiles. More a flat feel and color and softens the countertop shine.

Gorgeous tile!
This tile is so rich in color and beautifully organic in shape. The guest bathroom was remodeled after removing the house's original sink and vanity (1984). Looking for other projects to use this tile it!

Will purchase again!
Beautiful tile. We are using this in an outdoor shower and it will be perfect. I would recommend if you want a great white subway tile with a little movement in the clay.

Timeliness
Tile is fine, ordered twice from tile bar and once shipping was quick, the other time it was sent by mule and took 4 weeks?

Lovely tile, but lots of hidden breakage
This tile is quite lovely, and there are a lot of different patterns, and I'm looking forward to the finished project. Unfortunately, we did not unbox everything right away, as we weren't ready for installation but set it carefully aside. We noted one broken tile on the top of one box, but that was it. When I was ready to start installation, I unboxed and laid out the all the tiles, grouped by pattern. I ended up with the equivalent of one entire box of broken tiles, plus maybe 3 additional broken tiles. Although the shipment was well-packed with foam padding, and the shipping carton was undamaged, I suspect that the breakage occurred prior to shipment. I'm chalking this up to experience, as it is now too late to get a credit for the breakage (it is long past the 5-day window). While I will be able to use some of the broken pieces for smaller areas, it's just frustrating to find that more than 10% of the order is already broken, and I may have to order one more box to finish the project. My advice - immediately unbox all tiles you receive, even if you are not ready to use them, and check each tile for damage.
