Shaken or Stirred?

Most Scotch casks are used bourbon barrels made of American oak. Some distilleries also age whisky in old sherry, wine and even rum casks. The final product has to be a minimum of 80 proof. After malting, the barley used for many Scotches, especially those made on the island of Islay, is dried using smoke from burning peat. This gives the finished whisky a pronounced smoky flavor.

Can these tiles be used in the shower?

BEST ANSWER: Exposure to moisture will cause metal to discolor. Not suitable for outdoor, pool or shower installation

Tile must be installed over a suitable substrate to insure a proper installation. Tile should be installed over a clean, sound, and flat surface, free of contaminates including curing compounds. Substrate should be free of cracks. If used in a wet area you must waterproof. See manufacturer’s recommendation on a membrane for crack and water protection that is compatible with the setting material you are using. Expansion joints should be installed at all “changes in plane” in the tile work and where tile abuts restraining surfaces, therefore silicone caulking sealant must be installed in all corner joints in place of grout.

The recommended cutting method is to use a wet saw with a diamond blade that is specifically for cutting metal. Edges can be sanded smooth after cutting.

  • To avoid affecting the color of the tile, White modified thin-set such as Bostik Glass Mate is highly is recommended for all installations.
  • Apply as much adhesive as can be covered within 10-15 minutes.
  • Grout joint should be a minimum of 1/16” and not butt set.
  • The trowel size you can use is a 9" Trowel - 1/16" square notch.

  • You would need to waterdown the thin set a bit more and use the excess thinset as a grout line.
  • It is highly recommended that you purchase the Glass & Metal Maintenance Kit

After the tile is installed, seal the tile with an appropriate solvent based sealer, to preserve the finish, minimize oxidization, and prevent the formation of rust. Follow sealer manufacturer’s installation instructions. Reseal the tile as needed.

Stainless Steel

Onlly use a stainless steel cleaner. Apply the cleaner with a shammy or microfiber cloth. Do not use towels or rags due to their ability to scratch stainless steel.

Other Metal tiles

Metal tiles can be easily cleaned with warm water and dishwashing soap. Use a shammy or microfiber cloth to clean the tile, then rinse off the remaining soap.
