Very prettyJ A on May 3, 2017Can this be used for a shower floor?BEST ANSWER: Hi Heidi, I don't think that this would be a good choice for a shower floor. The tile is absolutely gorgeous, but it is very thin glass and also very smooth. I would be concerned about robustness and its being too slick for safety. Also, we usually count on the sanded grout between tiles to help make a shower floor safer and this tile really should be set with unsanded grout. We love it as the backsplash in our master bath, but wouldn't recommend it for a shower floor. Best of luck with your project! KathWe noticed that this tile should not be submerged. Does this mean that it is not suitable for a shower wall? It will get very wet but not submerged unless the drain stops. Also can this tile be cleaned with Dow Scrubbing bubbles and other bathroom tile cleaning products? We have this tile in our kitchen as a back splash and in our laundry room and love it. We are now thinking about our shower. Any help would be appreciated.BEST ANSWER: We have it in our shower niche and as an accent band around the shower. It was installed 1.5 years ago and we have had no problems. We are an eco friendly household so we never use conventional cleaners that are filled with toxic chemicals. Too many cancer risks with conventional products. We use Bon Ami and an Eco fiendly scrubber with great results. Bon Ami is available at most strores. Mir is a powder cleaner like comet, but has a base of coconut instead of chemicals. It gets rid of soap scum in no time and has no scent!I would like to use in master bathroom grout line on floor. Will it hold up to normal wear?BEST ANSWER: I used it as a backsplash for my kitchen and absolutely LOVE it. I doubt it would be good for a floor, because the tile is so thin...it could easily break if a high heeled shoe walked on it. Bare feet, probably fine. If you lay it where there is low traffic, you might be alright. Is this real mother of pearl or glass?BEST ANSWER: I have used this product several times. I believe it does have some glass which adds to the durablility. It can been put on to durarock to raise the height and be placed as a border, liner or dot along large field tiles. Its an awesome tileIs there a paper backing on it to install paper face up for ease?BEST ANSWER: There is a line white mesh holding all the little squares. The tiles are very very thin! I had a professional install these as I only ordered 2 extra tiles and didn't have room for error. If you look at the pictures you can see the mesh between the tiles. The tiles are lightly glues to the mesh, This is a delicate installMight I use this MoP tile for the countertop on a bathroom vanity?BEST ANSWER: Mother of pearl is very soft and delicate material. I have it on a wall in my bathroom and a decorative shelf that I do put some bubble bath (plastic) bottles and it doesn't get much wear and tear, as well as, the backsplash to my vanity where it is all holding up very well. Only you know how rough you are on your counter tops. I personally could probably "get away" with a MOP counter top because I am a very careful person, but my husband is like a bull in a china shop and there is NOW WAY I would put something so fragile in his path! LOL I hope this feedback gives you some insight. It is very very pretty BTW, but I would recommend using as an accent versus in a highly functional space however. How deep is the tile plus thinset? My gap granite to wall board may be to wideBEST ANSWER: Hi, I would compare the tile to the thickness of a dime. I can't comment on the thinset because I used glue - mine is installed a a frame around a mirror. It is really pretty. The Serene 3D tile is a little thicker (I had ordered a sample of that one) and it is absolutely stunning however more expensive.what size is the sample?BEST ANSWER: 1/4 of a sheet. Approximately 6" X 6". I used as backsplash for ivory cabinets with pewter glaze. Tile is very thin and easy to work with. I ordered eight different ivory tile samples. This tile is a beautiful choice for off white cabinets. How many square feet in a sheet of mother of pearl tile?BEST ANSWER: There is one square foot per sheet.
These instructions are meant to be a guide for most installations, under normal conditions. Please follow best practice instructions found in the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) 09300 Handbook for specific installation types.
Due to the natural of the material no two pieces of natural stone are exactly alike. Natural stones are products of nature; therefore, variations in color, pattern, texture, and veining will occur. Verify all products before installation for any damage or defects such as chipped edges, broken pieces. No adjustment will be made after installation.
*Always use appropriate personal protective safety equipment when handling, drilling, cutting or grinding glass tile such as (but not limited to) eye, ear and hand protection.
Before you start tiling, make sure that whatever surface the tiles are being installed to will be strong and structurally sound. Cement board, concrete or drywall is best, as these surfaces can handle the moisture of the tiling process. Plywood should be avoided, since the wood will warp with the added moisture and it will also be less waterproof, even after tiling.
When setting tiles we recommend the use of polymer or latex modified thin set or medium bed mortar compliant with ANSI standard A118.4 and is recommended for use with marble tile.
3/16” or 1/4” square notch trowel should be used when installing our glass material and ridges should be smoothed down with the flat side of the trowel prior to fixing the tiles in the mortar bed.
Use a wet-saw with a new, continuous rim diamond blade specifically designed for cutting marble. Do not use “turbo” or other notched blades designed for use with porcelain or ceramic as the teeth can cause a coarse cut, resulting in a heavily chipped edge.
Cut edges and corners will be sharp. Always be sure to smooth the cut edges manually with 200-grit wet/dry sandpaper.
If possible, drill holes before installing tile. Drilling from both sides can ensure a cleaner finish if the hole will be visible after installation. Using a new diamond coring bit (for large holes) or spade bit (for small holes) with a diamond tip made for glass drilling will give the best results. Lubricating the bit and tile surface with a continuous spray of oil/water mix will prolong the life of bits and provide a better-finished edge. When possible, the use of a jig will ensure precise placement of holes to be drilled.
When drilling holes for anchoring bolts, plumbing or any other dissimilar material always ensure a minimum of 1/8” clearance around the item is provided to avoid cracking due to disparate expansion and contraction rates or stress transfer.
We recommend applying grout release prior to grouting, suitable for the respective stone and interior or exterior use, to the tile to facilitate cleaning and for protection against staining from contrasting color grouts. Grout joints should be packed full and free of all voids and pits. Excess grout should be cleaned from the stone surface as the work progresses, before the grout hardens. Do not use acids to clean off excess grout. Prior to grouting, test an area to make sure the stone surface will not scratch.
After the stone is installed, and grouted, seal the stone with an appropriate high quality breathable stone sealer, to minimize water absorption, efflorescence, and potential staining. If necessary, a color enhancer may be applied to bring out the true color of the stone at any time after grouting. Follow sealer manufacturer’s installation instructions. Reseal tile when the stone gets darker or as needed.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Mother of Pearl and Pearl Shell tiles must be regularly cleaned and maintained to extend the life and beauty of the tile. The tiles can be cleaned with a neutral mild detergent. Keep surfaces clean from abrasive dirt and do not use abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads, steel wool or sandpaper. Do not let soap, bleach or other cleaning solutions set on the surface. Seashells consist primarily of Calcium Carbonate. They will react with acid including vinegar, acidic foods and carbonated beverages.
