Can this be used for a shower floor?
heidi s on Jul 23, 2015
Best Answer: Hi Heidi, I don't think that this would be a good choice for a shower floor. The tile is absolutely gorgeous, but it is very thin glass and also very smooth. I would be concerned about robustness and its being too slick for safety. Also, we usually count on the sanded grout between tiles to help make a shower floor safer and this tile really should be set with unsanded grout. We love it as the backsplash in our master bath, but wouldn't recommend it for a shower floor. Best of luck with your project! Kath

Is there a paper backing on it to install paper face up for ease?
marina s on Jan 18, 2015
Best Answer: There is a line white mesh holding all the little squares. The tiles are very very thin! I had a professional install these as I only ordered 2 extra tiles and didn't have room for error. If you look at the pictures you can see the mesh between the tiles. The tiles are lightly glues to the mesh, This is a delicate install

We noticed that this tile should not be submerged. Does this mean that it is not suitable for a shower wall? It will get very wet but not submerged unless the drain stops. Also can this tile be cleaned with Dow Scrubbing bubbles and other bathroom tile cleaning products? We have this tile in our kitchen as a back splash and in our laundry room and love it. We are now thinking about our shower. Any help would be appreciated.

Best Answer: We have it in our shower niche and as an accent band around the shower. It was installed 1.5 years ago and we have had no problems. We are an eco friendly household so we never use conventional cleaners that are filled with toxic chemicals. Too many cancer risks with conventional products. We use Bon Ami and an Eco fiendly scrubber with great results. Bon Ami is available at most strores. Mir is a powder cleaner like comet, but has a base of coconut instead of chemicals. It gets rid of soap scum in no time and has no scent!

what size is the sample?
A shopper on Jan 14, 2015
Best Answer: 1/4 of a sheet. Approximately 6" X 6". I used as backsplash for ivory cabinets with pewter glaze. Tile is very thin and easy to work with. I ordered eight different ivory tile samples. This tile is a beautiful choice for off white cabinets.

A shopper on Jan 15, 2015
Best Answer: It says in the specs that it's 1.12 x 1.12 a square. It was very pretty but very thin as in depth. Not llike a tile, just so you know.

I would like to use in master bathroom grout line on floor. Will it hold up to normal wear?
easter a on Nov 17, 2015
Best Answer: I used it as a backsplash for my kitchen and absolutely LOVE it. I doubt it would be good for a floor, because the tile is so could easily break if a high heeled shoe walked on it. Bare feet, probably fine. If you lay it where there is low traffic, you might be alright.

Tile must be installed over a suitable substrate to insure a proper installation. Glass tile should be installed over a clean, sound, and flat surface, free of contaminates including curing compounds. Substrate should be free of cracks. If used in a wet area you must waterproof. See manufacturer’s recommendation on a membrane for crack and water protection that is compatible with the setting material you are using. Glass is reflective therefore any inconsistencies in the substrate will result in a poor installation. For pools and fountains we recommend installing a mortar bed according to TCA P601-98. EXPANSION AND CONTROL JOINTS PER TCA EJ171-05 Expansion joints should be installed at all “changes in plane” in the tile work and where tile abuts restraining surfaces, therefore silicone caulking sealant must be installed in all corner joints in place of grout.

  • To avoid affecting the color of glass tile, White modified thin-set such as Bostik Glass Mate is highly is recommended for all installations.
  • Apply thin-set using a trowel as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Apply as much adhesive as can be covered within 10-15 minutes.
  • Grout joint should be a minimum of 1/16” and not butt set.
  • The trowel size you can use is a 9" Trowel - 1/16" square notch.
  • Grout joints should be packed full and free of voids and pits.
  • Clean excess grout as the work progresses before it has hardens completely.
  • Acids should never be used for cleaning grout haze.
  • Use a damp sponge for the final cleaning and to smooth out the grout joints.
  • It is recommended to use non-sanded grout.
  • Highly recommended to purchase the Glass Installation/Maintenance Kit -

The recommended cutting method is to use a wet saw with a diamond blade that is specifically for cutting glass. Edges can be sanded smooth after cutting.
